MANCINI PLAYS DOWN RVP TALK

It almost seemed a fait accompli at one stage but Robin van Persie’s proposed move to Manchester City now appears further away than ever.

City’s manager, Roberto Mancini, has told The Sun that there are unlikely to be any major signings ahead of the start of the EPL champions' pre-season campaign.

"Van Persie? He is an Arsenal player and I don't want to disrespect Arsene Wenger.

"We have four strikers and we will start the pre-season in five days, it's unlikely there will be major changes in such a short time."

Mancini is still hopeful of keeping his high-profile striking quartet of Mario Balotelli, Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero for next season.
