I know people out there may be sceptical, due to the advertising machines of Nike, adidas etc and say you can’t get a good pair of boots for less than £50 but believe me, you can!
If you look around you will find some great deals on boots, I’m not just talking you’re high street stores, the Internet is a great source for cheap, good quality football boots at affordable prices. Judging by the spread of cleats at my club and other teams we play against most players go for the big three; Nike, adidas and Puma, with a small percentage wearing the recently revitalised Umbro.
Here are my tips on getting a deal!
Tip 1: Older = Cheaper – If you can’t afford the latest boot take a look at the previous version. Often the way to find cheap football boots and to pick up a bargain is to buy an older model. By older we don’t mean a few years but a few months.
Tip 2: Dare to be different – When a football boot is released it will generally come in 4 or 5 different colors. By choosing a slightly different color you can save as much as 50%. In monetary terms this means that you will save £30-£50!
Tip 3: Do the opposite – Just like clothes when the weather changes retailers have sales, the same applies for football boots. For example in the Summer when the weather is dry and the ground hard, soft ground football boots are cheaper but when the weather is wet in the Winter, hard ground football boots are cheaper. So you may as well buy them when the are cheap and put them away until the weather changes.
Tip 4: Down Spec – If you want the latest football boots but don’t want to pay the full whack then down spec. So instead of buying the Nike Mercurial Vapor V take a look at the Nike Mercurial Steam V. Honestly, there isn’t too much difference and if there is, it rarely justifies the extra dosh.
Here are my recommendations:
Puma Esito XL football boots Just £15.00 (while stocks last) - The Puma Esito XL is made in the style of the traditional Puma King model, the black and white colours give off a classic look, the boot is comfortable and durable and more importantly cheaper than the original Puma King designs.
Available at sportsdirect.com for a mere £15.
Umbro SX Valor II football boots From £40.50 (while stocks last) - This is an incredible saving! Originally retailing for £119.99, Kitbag are now selling them from £40.50. A durable and light design, made for use on soft natural surfaces, perfect for taking control of a game. For this price there are few better boots on the market it can do a bit of everything.
x
Nike Mercurial Steam V football boots Just £44.98 (while stocks last) - The upgrade to the Mercurial Steam IV, a lightweight boot designed to increase speed, similar in style to the Vapor V, again though it is cheaper. One bonus is that they are also, in my honest opinion, the best colorway yet: Orion Blue/Metallic Silver/Dark Obsidian. Available at sportsshoes.com for £44.98.
x
Adidas Predator Absolion X football boots From £45.00 (while stocks last) - The latest version of the Predator, the Absolion X is designed to improve ball control and dribbling, modelled on the predator used by Dimitar Berbatov and has been tested by and given its seal of approval by the legendary Zinedine Zidane, so you know its got to be good. Currently on sale at sportsdirect.com for £45 – a bargain.
Now the biggest bargain you will be able to find at the moment comes at sportsdirect.com coming in the shape of the Adidas predator PowerSwerve TRX SG, the boot currently being used by Arsenal’s, Robin Van Persie. The PowerSwerve TRX FG is a lightweight boot, however packing more power than its predator predecessors ever did, used by the likes of Beckham, Gerrard and Van Persie available at sportsdirect.com in sizes 6-8 for only £40 reduced from £130.
Obviously a lot of you are sceptical about buying you’re boots online, you want to test the feel of them on you’re feet, simple solution go to the high street stores and try them on, if you like them look on the internet for them as you will undoubtably find them cheaper!
