SPURS CLOSE ON AVB; MOUTINHO TO JOIN HIM?

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to unveil Andre Villas-Boas as their new manager this week, a move that could spark a transfer rush at the north London club.

The Guardian reports that negotiations between Spurs and the former Chelsea boss are ongoing, but they appear to be on the verge of finalising a deal.

Early speculation is that Villas-Boas will sign a three-year contract as early as Tuesday.

The report also claims that the man known as ‘AVB’ will take some of the same backroom staff to Tottenham that joined him when he moved from Porto to Chelsea.

Despite the move not yet being confirmed, several transfers appear close to being secured by Spurs under the assumption that Villas-Boas will take charge at White Hart Lane.

These include the arrival of Gylfi Sigurdsson, the Hoffenheim striker who shone while on loan at Swansea City last season, as well as Internacional youngster Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Junior and Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen.

But potentially the biggest arrival could be one of AVB’s countrymen, Joao Moutinho.

The 25-year-old midfielder had a standout campaign for Portugal at Euro 2012, and has been linked with a move from Porto to England.

And in a good sign that the transfer may go ahead, Moutinho issued his support for Villas-Boas.

"AVB is one of the best coaches I’ve worked with,” Moutinho was quoted as saying in the Sun. “I’d work with him again tomorrow."
